Goodbye, Tumblr?

IS THIS GOODBYE, TUMBLR? 

Well, this sucks.

I started this blog, Abysitter.com, 10 years ago last month. 

I’ve talked about the reason I started my own blog many times over the years. It was because the ABDL websites popular back then all seemed to be going out of business. Remember DPF.com? Remember? Aby.com? Remember Diaperspace? Remember RUPadded? Probably not - and some of y’all aren’t even old enough to have been around for the first one lol. Anyway, they’re all websites that had gone out before I began my own blog, or were rumored to be going out at the time I started. (Sure enough… all gone). 

I’d made so many friendships and connections on those websites in those years, and the idea that I might lose them all because a server couldn’t be kept online was disheartening, to say the least. So I spent $20 and reserved the domain Abysitter.com, and then pointed it to a blank Blogger.com site, and began blogging. At the very least I figured if websites went down, at least a few people might remember the domain and come and find me when our connection went dark. Ten years and more than a million views later, it’s become much more than a mere link! 

Now word has come out that Tumblr will be blocking out ‘adult content’. None of us know, yet, whether that will include our content - but we all know people who have already had their Tumblr blogs deleted, so… just in case we are forced to say goodbye to each other here, I wanted to be damn sure that I gave you my main link, and all of the other ones, too. 

I’m less active on most of these than I am on my main blog and my Tumblr, but it sounds like that may be changing soon. Anyway, if you’re on the following platforms, please please please connect with me there - I don’t want to . And if you’re not, consider checking them out, just in case we need them…

This is my main blog. 

It’s where I launched my ABDL survey from, and where all of my contests are hosted. You’ll find stories I’ve written through the years here, and some commentary on the ABDL community, among other things. 

You’ll also see a ton of Q&A’s and a lot of guest entries from members of the community on these pages. Before everyone could have their own Tumblr blog filled with their own content, this blog gave people a place to have all of their pictures featured in one place. It gave my readers a place where they could come and just scroll through content all day long, like we currently do on Tumblr. Use the sidebar to the right and go back to 2008, 2009, 2010 and you’ll see some of the folks who have big Tumblr accounts now in some of their first posts on the internet, right here on this blog site.

Diaper-Bois has been around for 15+ years. It’s a decent place to check out photos and videos - the latter requiring a paid membership - and it has a local search feature, and decent messaging features, too. No apps, like most of the others, and I think it has way more of the ‘small talk’ and ‘change my poo poo dipey?’ messages then others. Still, good platform. Join. Diaper-Bois.com

TWITTER

I feel like Twitter may become the next platform for ABDL. They don’t allow hardcore porn, but most of our content seems to be acceptable - I’ve been tweeting for years and have yet to have content deleted. It’s not as rich as Tumblr - text posts are limited, for example - but folks who want to fit more text in just post pictures of their notes in the Notes app and sneak stories in. Twitter has, in the past few years, allowed for longer DM’s and more photos in posts, so it may be the closest thing to Tumblr that we have. Follow me! Twitter.com/abysitter

ABDL FACEBOOK (& VANILLA FACEBOOK)

I have a vanilla Facebook - I give that link out to people I get to know really well. For my ABDL stuff, I have an ABDL profile on that platform. I’m not a huge fan of Facebook for ABDL stuff, since it’s rife will stolen pictures, there are underage folks abound, and it’s very poorly moderated. About That Tumblr Purge...

By now it's probably no secret to anyone who uses Tumblr for their ABDL browsing that the app has gone on a bit of a kink purge bender recently. 

According to Tumblr, its app was removed from Apple's app store after child pornographic images were found site-wide - including images not currently uploaded to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's database. That may mean many things, but likely means images containing child pornography that are being introduced to the world via Tumblr. 

Tumblr, it appears, is taking this seriously - and may be targeting kink-related blogs containing pornography - child or not. From their statement: 

We’re committed to helping build a safe online environment for all users, and we have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to media featuring child sexual exploitation and abuse. As this is an industry-wide problem, we work collaboratively with our industry peers and partners like NCMEC to actively monitor content uploaded to the platform. Every image uploaded to Tumblr is scanned against an industry database of known child sexual abuse material, and images that are detected never reach the platform. A routine audit discovered content on our platform that had not yet been included in the industry database. We immediately removed this content. Content safeguards are a challenging aspect of operating scaled platforms. We’re continuously assessing further steps we can take to improve and there is no higher priority for our team.

To that end, several ABDL blogs have been deleted without warning recently, and I've heard reports that site moderators are going back through old videos and removing them, sending out the ubiquitous 'terms of service' email. 

Newly announced, also, is a content filtering change for iOS. Users of the iPhone and iPad apps may be surprised to find that their default settings have been set to block out NSFW content in 'safe search'. Where this was once able to be set within the app, it can now only be changed in the device settings themselves. 

Want to update your settings so that NSFW content comes up in your feed? Follow these instructions and/or check out the screen shots below: 

Device Settings > Tumblr > Safe Mode > 'Don't Hide Anything'

This is important because we suspect that some of the blogs being deleted are ones which contain 'explicit content' but which have not flagged themselves as being explicit. 

Still, at the end of the day, any blog is at risk for a 'takedown'. If it happens to you, check out their support page for steps to dispute the deletion. Let us know how it goes!

The Snuggies Series has a Tumblr!

If you're anywhere close to my age you remember the Snuggies series, a series of Photoshop fake diaper ads featuring some of the hottest diaper "models" around. I wrote about them and their creator, Vincent VanGoo, in a Community Spotlight blog entry from February 2012. These photos pre-date most real ABDL photos posted online and, for many of us, were the first diaper photos we ever got to experience. They just keep getting better and better, and cuter and cuter.

Queerty.com Outs US??

Just as I predicted last year, some of the ABDL photos posted to Tumblr have hit the mainstream. 

Well, kinda.

Queerty, a gay alternative website, wrote up a piece called PHOTOS: Yes, Emo Boy Baby Play Is A Real Thing. Click here to check it out. It features ABDL photos of boys the site believes to appear 'emo' based on appearance. Some of the photos were posted by the subjects of them; others may not have been. They come from a Tumblr blog that posts 'emo boys' in diapers, at least some of which one might assume are posted without permission.

While being featured on a gay website isn't the worst thing in the world, it's one step closer to us being exposed on a mainstream site. And while I don't think exposure is the worst thing in the world if done in the right way, I do feel for anyone whose pictures get included in the next writeup.

Having said that, I love our community, and 99% of the people who comprise it. Knowing that some of you proudly show off your adorable diapered asses for the whole world to see is a great feeling. Those of you who are that proud to be ABDL make me proud to be ABDL, so I have to thank you.

I just wish it was easier to separate those who are proudly displaying their diapers from those whose photos have been stolen and reposted. Sigh...

Tumblr... Follow Me? And Send Me Your Links!

I have recently enabled my Tumblr blog. 

I am going to be doing an experiment with it before I decide whether I'll keep it. 

If you've been a regular reader of this blog, you know I have a major problem with Tumblr. I've posted about it before. Several times, actually. Against it, each time. I even likened it to gang rape. And a guest entry writer, DiaperWhiz, wrote an entry on it, too, that was fairly neutral.

Our community, I know, has a love/hate relationship with Tumblr. I've seen the posts on every diaper site in existence. And I've been emailed by more of you about this single issue than any other.

Some people love Tumblr because it's a virtual treasure trove of ABDL pictures, including pictures ripped from the internet before some of our current crop of little ABDL scenesters were out of diapers the first time around. We have some trolls in our community who have been saving every ABDL picture they've come across since the floppy disc was how files were stored. They've kept these files, and now they've finally found a place to post them all. 

Stands to reason many in our community would be upset. For those who have had their pictures stolen, of course, there is outrage. Pictures that you posted on a diaper site requiring a password/login to see have been jacked, lifted, and repositioned, posted on a non-ABDL site that many of your families and non-ABDL friends browse on the regular.

Even some of us who don't post pictures, or haven't had them stolen, are upset. Some of us are old enough to remember when there was still a bit of honor amongst ABDLs. With only a few sites, the trolls and thieves would be called out quick. Nobody wanted to be viewed as a thief, so you'd occasionally find someone using a diaper picture they'd stolen, but they'd be called out and either delete their profile (or at least the pic) or be deleted by a moderator. Tumblr... no mods. 

Some of you have hit me up outraged because so much child porn has been posted along with ABDL pictures from some of the biggest offenders. You may not mind that diaper pictures are posted - even some of your own - but you resent the fact that some of those depicted are children in diapers. I do, too. And so, apparently, does Tumblr... they've gotten better about deleting sites that are posting obvious child porn. Thanks, Tumblr. And thanks to all of you who don't post, or enjoy, that stuff.

I came out against Tumblr early, and vocally, after hearing from a few collegebabies upset about their picture, including one who was actually pretty devastated. He'd sent his pictures to a Daddy when he was 15 and the Daddy had either posted them or shared them. His appearance in the four years since hadn't changed all that much, and the pics on Tumblr would be obvious to anyone that they were him. He was angry and wanted to prosecute someone. Anyone. 

And thus, the problem with Tumblr. 

But in the past few months I've started to notice something. 

Some of you have been blogging on Tumblr, but for real.

You're not posting pictures you ganked from someone else's diaper page - you're posting your own. 

Some of you are even writing blog entries. 

Tumblr is an easy platform for you to use. And, as a result, there are some good ABDL blogs going up. 

I noticed this after I posted some blog entries here from Champ. Champ has a Tumblr blog - [http://lilboychamp.tumblr.com/] - and posts some of the best entries I've ever seen. 

When I began blogging in 2008 there were very few ABDL blogs on the internet. Most were essentially dead links. People didn't blog because, to be honest, getting readers was hard. People just gave up. 

Tumblr makes getting followers easy and fun. 

It makes people want to blog. 

And while I've seen evidence that it is allowing a mixture of ABDLs and non-ABDLs, I'm torn about the effects of that. Part of me fears this. As part of the 'older guard' of ABDLs, I am old enough to remember when our community was very closed and didn't want to be found out. 

But as someone who has diapered dozens of non-ABDL's (long story), I'm certainly not 100% averse to it myself.

And as someone who has recently begun checking out blogs on the Tumblr platform, I have to admit: some of the people I'm seeing pictures of I've never seen before. And so many of them make our fetish/community look damn fucking good.

Seeing so many pictures of normal people wearing diapers? It might just be a good look for us. 

Still not sure. 

But I'm going to try it out. 

I'm not going to repost stolen ABDL pics, which is how Tumblr became popular in the first place. 

And don't worry: unless you specifically give me permission, any photos you've contributed to my blog will not be re-appearing on Tumblr.    

But I will be posting there, including some of my older stories, and some new stuff. 

Everything will still appear here, so don't stop coming to Abysitter.com.

If Tumblr has become a site that will bring me a wider audience of real ABDLs - and it seems to have become that, as opposed to the fakesters and photo stealers of 2012 - than I may just become open to it.
