The Origins of ABDL - Question #1

In addition to the survey data I'm collecting, I'm asking members of the community to provide answers to a series of questions that will provide more information on The Origins of ABDL.

If you'd like to answer any, or all, of the questions, I certainly appreciate it! I'll use the best answers in my upcoming project presentation!

Just click here to answer via email, or email abysitter@gmail.com and put "Question 1" in the subject header. Be sure to include your username, social media links (if you want me to include those), and your age/location!

This weekend's question is...

Describe your earliest recollections of your love for diapers. Describe the moment you realized that you were... different. Describe in as much detail as you feel comfortable.

Next week's question will ask you to describe your earliest memories of realizing you weren't alone in your love for diapers. Today I'm just asking you to describe your first realizations that diapers, and/or being treated like a baby, were something that you loved more than anyone else did.

Again, just email me, with "Question 1" in the subject:

Thanks for your support!

Survey Responses After 48 Hours - And Some Data!

So far the response to the survey has been amazing. I was taken aback by how fast we reached the 1,000 responses milestone - 48 hours in and we were at 1,050. I’m excited!

So far the responses have been 99% positive.

There has been a bit of bad. Like technical glitches, including a hosting issue overnight right after launch - sigh. A few of you got angry when you couldn’t find the survey, and I apologize for that - I hope that you all found it later, and took it.

And there has, of course, been a bit of ugly. Like a string of comments in a Fetlife group calling the community "an awful transphobic and mysogynistic garbage dump” - and suggested what I felt were insulting responses the survey would bring.

While these folks may have had the best of intentions - they feel that surveys of th ABDL community should never be done, but if they must be done should be done only by qualified and trained mental health or survey professionals - the tact they took made me sad for a certain segment of our community. There are some dark, dark corners of the ABDL community - and they’re apparently filled with "creeper messages, transphobia, and misogyny.” And anger.

Thankfully, outside of this project, I have no dealings with any of this, and the part of the community I regularly interact with, and have interacted with during my 9+ years of blogging, is 99.9999% fucking amazing.

It does make me sad that not everyone has gotten to have that same experience, or been left with that same feeling. Be nice to each other, people. Accept, and respect, people’s differences. And don’t be creepers.

I’ve also gotten some very nasty text messages from someone angry that I didn’t include their favorite ABDL event in my list of cons, accompanied by insults and threats to get my class shut down unless I add their event to the poll.

It makes me sad that people would represent an event they seem to be very passionate about by trying to mar the experience of people at another event.

But, again, these are people I can be 99.9999% sure I’ll have no interactions with, ever, outside of this survey project, so it's whatever.

For the most part, though, save for the above, the responses have been nothing short of amazing.

I have read through hundreds of the surveys so far, and have been spending a lot of time putting data together. I’m excited about sharing the results with you.

And while I fully acknowledge that the results are not going to be the ‘smoking gun’ to discovering why we are the way they are, I think they’ll provide some good evidence to prove - or, probably, disprove - my own theory - more on that later. At the very least I hope that they’ll open the door to some valuable conversations in the meantime.

I understand that there is a segment of the community for whom exploring the answers to why we are the way we are is a very negative, and even threatening, possibility. There are people who just want this left alone - who even conspire to get things like discussions about it shut down. For them, painful triggering memories may be a part of their own ABDL past. I get that, and I wish it weren’t that way for anyone.

For more of the people I’ve talked to during my years of blogging, though, than not, the questions about what lead us to love diapers and/or ageplay is a fascinating topic that deserves examination.

So we’ll try to do that, to whatever degree we can.

Now, I’d like to share some numbers from the 48 hour mark:

Survey responses so far:

USA 764
Canada 94
UK 64
Australia 35
Germany 22
Netherlands 13
Norway 8
France 7
New Zealand 6
Sweden 5
Ireland 4
Denmark 3
Finland 3
South Africa 3
Spain 3
Austria 2
Belgium 2
Czech Republic 2
Malaysia 2

and 12 other countries with only 1 responding ABDL.

After 48 hours:

15.4% of my survey respondents (so far) are under age 21.

Of those, 9.58% are female. That is opposed to 4.43% female overall.

Trans, under 21: 7.78% - as opposed to 4.14% trans overall.

It’s not a huge difference, and it probably should surprise no one, but if these poll numbers represent our community overall, it does suggest that we may have become a bit more gender diverse with our youngest generation. That’s probably in line with society at large.

15.1% of my survey respondents (so far) are age 40 or older.

Of those, .62% are female and 2.47% are trans.

This last part does raise some interesting questions.

For example: are there 15x the number of females under 21 responding because something is causing younger people - females, especially - to develop this fetish? If so, what?

Or does something happen to females by the time they reach 40 to drive them away from this community?

Or, is my survey not accurately representative of the actual numbers of ABDL females over 40 for some reason? Maybe women over 40 just don’t have the patience for polls?

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the matter.

I’ll explore these and other questions during my presentation (if the angry left-out convention crowd doesn’t succeed in getting it shut down lol) - and you know I’ll be sharing those details on my blog!

In the meantime, if you want to be a part of the continued conversation, please keep checking back here, or subscribe to my mailing list, where I’ll be posting six different questions for people to answer that will hopefully provide a more human component than a survey ever could.

Thanks for taking it if you have already, and if you haven’t, please consider!

Cwis

Update! We broke 1,000 survey respondents overnight - we're now at 1,034 and counting! It's crazy how quickly these came in... I just want to thank everyone who shared the Tumblr post, or shared the survey link on their own social media profiles - you rock. Please keep sharing!

The next part of this project will consist of a series of questions I'll be asking. I'll ask the questions here on my blog, and I'll send them out to my mailing list, as well. If you haven't signed up for the mailing list yet, please do - you'll find the signup form on the right side of my blog. Holy Fuck... Already 400!

I launched my "Origins of ABDL" survey this afternoon, and in just over 8 hours 412 responses have already come in. That's incredible! Our community rocks, y'all.

My survey plan only allows for 1,000 responses and then that's it - it's closed. Not sure how long it will take to get to 1K, but it's looking like that might be a possible goal. At that point I have to decide between fundraising to cough up the dough for an annual plan, or cap it. Anyone interested in sponsoring a survey project, hit me up! Although 1,000 responses is a nice round number, and should make the math easy... hehe.

I'm excited about this project. I'm playing with the results, and I like that I can break down responses by any category - age, gender, etc. We'll be able to look at the differences in responses between younger and older ABDLs, men and women, people who like disposable vs. people who like Pull-Ups - there are all kinds of possibilities.

Starting this week I'll be posing six questions to my readers, via the blog and my mailing list. I've already got the six, but I'm interested in suggestions. What questions do you think I should be asking, after doing the survey?

Anyway, if you haven't done the survey yet, please visit the survey site, whyABDL.com/survey. And be sure to check out the details of the Tumblr contest - reblog the post for a chance to win

Take my ABDL survey!

I've launched my survey,
'Origins of ABDL'!

I'm doing a Tumblr contest:
reblog the Tumblr post
and then complete the survey
and you'll be entered to win
one of three packs of ABDL diapers
and
one of ten copies of my e-book,

Please Take A Brief Survey?

A faithful blog reader and Cwis fanboy has asked me to post this survey. They're trying to gather a bit of information from y'all about your ABDL supply purchase habits. Please take a moment to answer these 4-5 questions? Thanks!

UPDATE: This survey must be completed on a PC/Mac - it cannot be completed on an iPhone. Thanks!

A Penny For Your Thoughts? April 2013

As I have been preparing for my upcoming photo contest I have been trying to attract sponsors. Part of my reaching out has included attempting to quantify Abysitter.com's readership numbers - something that isn't as easy as you would think.

It's easy to count my Twitter followers. I know how many people receive my mailing list. And, thanks to MailChimp, I can even see how many people open my emails now! (Hint: it's far above the industry average. Downside: I have no idea what my "industry" is: diaper blogs? Hmm.)

What is more difficult to count is how many people view this blog, and how often. I know that, on average, it receives 150 unique daily views. That means that 150 people visit this blog on a daily basis from an internet connection (PC, Mac, or mobile browser). I also know that I have 40 people who get every blog entry in their email inbox, and that it has 50 regular followers on the Blogger/Google platform.

Some of any of the above may be duplicates. And I have no way of knowing who reads this blog in an RSS reader. Also, while I know that the numbers show that people who come to Abysitter.com read not just the front page but 2.5 pages while they are here, I can't tell if most people are clicking through to other pages on the blog, or if 99% of my readers are just reading the front page and one person is reading 100 pages ha.

In April I will be doing another survey where I will attempt to find out this information, and more. I've done surveys in the past, all of which have had remarkable success - more than 120 respondents for one, and over 80 for the followup, a very good response rate for anything fetish-related.

You can check out the original Abysitter.com survey from December 2010.
Or, check out the survey results here. (If asked, select Do Not Use Safe Mode).

You can also check out my entry on the ABDL Branding Survey from May 2011 here. Or, check out the survey results here. (Again, don't use 'safe mode' if asked).

I'll be introducing my next survey in April. I'm hoping to get as wide a response from the ABDL community as possible; as such, I'll be entering everyone who someone sites as their referrer to the survey into a drawing to win prizes. And maybe respondents, too. More on that in April...

If there is anything you've been wondering about our community, please let me know. I'd like to hear what questions you'd like me to ask in my survey. So I am asking you to email me if there is anything that you've been wondering. My email is abysitter@gmail.com. It's helpful if you put something like "survey questions" in the subject and body of the email so I can easily find them all when I'm putting the survey together.

In the meantime, get ready to refer people to the survey, and to answer some questions. I hope to learn more about how people read my blog (in a browser, on their phone, in an RSS reader, or via their email inbox), and a lot more about a bunch of other things, too.

Thanks,

Cwis

ABYSITTER.COM AB/DL BRANDING SURVEY
Results: As Of May 23, 2011

Question I: Community

COMING SOON... PART II
The second part of this survey is coming soon.
In it I'll be asking Abysitter.com blog readers to rate
experiences with diapers, AB/DL products, and merchants.
If you have any merchants or products you'd like to see included:
abysitter@gmail.com
(ASAP please).

AND...
I'll be including some of your comments from the survey.

ALSO...
I hope to include some information from a report I've found
which gives information on the various diaper sites
based on Alexa rankings
and other factors.

IN SIX MONTHS...
I'll be doing this survey once every six months
(or, at minimum, annually)
and hope to see how the tastes of my readers evolve and change
over time.

Abysitter.com Survey Results - Part III & Wrapup

Abysitter.com Survey Results
January 15, 2011
Part III

On January 9th I posted a survey and invited readers of my blog to take it. In a period of twenty-four hours, sixty of you did. I posted my analysis of the results twenty-four hours later. Since that time, nearly thirty more people have taken the survey! Today I will post the results of the second half of the survey, Part II.

Favorite Brand of Diaper
Probably most surprising in this category is the one of you who doesn't wear diapers. I'm assuming that answer was given by someone who falls into the 'daddy' category - I hope. Hopefully nobody got all the way through this survey without realizing it was something they had no interest in?

The kind of diapers you wear, ranked in order...
  1. Abena X-Plus: 61%
  2. Bambino: 48%
  3. Attends: 37%
  4. AB Universe Cushies: 33%
  5. Depend: 33%
  6. Molicare: 19%
  7. Tena: 18%
  8. Other Adult Diaper Brand: 16%
  9. AB Universe Super Dry Kids: 14%
  10. Store Brand: 4%
  11. Baby Diaper: 4%
  12. Baby Diaper Training Pant: 4%
In the 'other' category of this question I saw every other kind of Abena you can think of... every kind of X-Plus you can think of... and a diaper called Contifit.

Other Types of Clothing...
Many of you are AB, and incorporate other types of baby clothing into your activities. I asked you to tell me what you like, and you did...
  • 64% of you like footed sleepers. Are you listening, Aidan?
  • 58% of you like onesies.
  • 41% of you like plastic pants.
  • 38% of you like cartoon kid-like briefs; 37% of you like white briefs.
  • 16% of you like training pants (Pull-Ups)
  • 14% of you like cloth diapers.
  • 18% of you like bondagewear or other fetish wear, i.e. rubber.
It was surprising to me that 41% of you like plastic pants, yet only 1% of you like rubber pants. They're almost the same thing! I remember a survey I took when I was 19, a DPF.com survey that asked some of the same questions that mine does. The results were split: 50% liked plastic pants, and 50% liked rubber pants. Today nobody even knows what rubber pants are haha. Pampers has ruined it for all of the rubber pants lovers.

In the 'other' category for this question I saw jammies and shortalls several times, as well as puppy gear and collars.

Please give us more from...
I asked which blog contributors you would like to see more from. This was to help me determine what I'm posting that you like, so I can post more of it. I realize that this question is completely subjective based on who is taking the survey, since I've never posted a single pic or article that people haven't asked for more of. Still, your answers...
  • JDMStreetRacer - coming soon!
  • BeaverAB18 - hopefully you'll see more of him as well! Sissybabyben here.
  • Baby Jaymes - sadly, not coming soon, since he's temporarily quit the scene again.
  • Danette - maybe coming soon, but click the link at right for his very popular blog.
  • Pamperpall89 - I've let him know. ;)
I even had a request for someone's 'debut' on the blog - hehe, he knows who he is, sigh - and a few people suggested 'other people's stories'. And three people answered 'NO'... wtf is that about? NO? That doesn't even answer the question. But thanks... I guess. SMH.

Stars of the Community...
I asked you to tell me who, in your minds, the 'stars' of our community are.

I realize we don't have actual 'stars' but... we do have personalities. I chose the word 'star' because a good AB/DL friend used to use it, and it pretty much sums up what I was looking for: the people in this community who have become recognizable to us by only their screen names.

I was trying to determine who you'd like to see on this blog, so I could reach out to those ABDL's my blog readers are fans of and ask them to consider contributing.

Imagine my surprise when a large number of you said... Cwis.

Seriously, I was looking for the 'hot list' of our lifestyle/fetish. I didn't expect you to choose someone based on a blog, or a personality... I expected that you would choose the hottest guys and send them along. So I was flattered that so many of you, including a few of you who I recognize from your screen names, listed me here. I think that, more than anything else I took away from this survey, I learned that some of you are really big fans of this blog. That'll make it a lot easier in those weeks that I've posted ten entries and received zero comments and I start to wonder if anyone even reads the shit I write, or if it's just people scanning these pages for pictures for their masturbatory pleasure.

Thank you for that feedback.

Then the real 'stars' started appearing. And, while I wasn't going to include actual names at first, it is interesting, and I've had one or two people ask me for the results so...
  • Todaler
  • JDMStreetRacer (see banner up top and pics at right)
  • LittleAdam3 (the UK baby from my 'visiting Orlando' banner up top)
  • Pamperpall (see link at right for his posts)
  • Bilbng
  • Baby Matt
  • Baby WinterPaws
  • Brackishwater
  • Adrian from IHeartDiapers.com - an actual... GIRL omg.
Most of these guys got two or more mentions. I wasn't surprised by most of the answers (although I'm not sure which Baby Matt we're talking about... someone email me the link?) but I was surprised to see a few names not included. Still, only 20% of you answered this question, and I'm sure if 100% of you had I would have seen a bunch of other interesting names - and, I expect, those above a whole bunch more times.

My next survey may get more into who you like and why... hope y'all take that one, too... :P

To Recap...
Since the answers have changed a bit since I posted the results from the beginning of the survey, I'll spell it out for you again. As of January 15th at 6 a.m. - less than six days ago - 87 of you have taken the time to complete my survey.

You came from across the US and Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Sweden (or Norway? I get those mixed up, sorry), Germany, South Africa, and a lot of places that you didn't specify. Quite a few of you came from states I wouldn't have thought had a large ABDL population, like a bunch from Iowa and Kansas. Quite a few of you (at least nine, actually) came from Orlando, FL.

96% of you were male.

44% of you were college aged. Only 23% of you were over 30. None of you were under 18 or older than 65.

62% of you are gay. 17% are bi. Only 19% are straight. 1% is asexual.

58% of you were adult baby or college baby. 31% of you are primarily DLs. 4% of you are furries. One of you is a daddy. However, 67% of you consider yourselves to be toddlers, and 65% to be diaper lovers, when the answers are expanded to include everything you get into. 25% of you enjoy spending time in the 'daddy' role, 14% exploring your furry side, 13% get into pup play, and 12% enjoy acting sissy.

There were still no mommies. Sigh...

Your interests vary widely. But as someone who sometimes gets into spanking, and finds it difficult to located diaper boys into being Pampered and paddled, I was encouraged to learn that 68% of you are into diaper discipline, and 60% into spanking - a full 50 of you. Hit me up! LOL. 35% are into wet, 19% are into messy, 41% are into underwear, Speedos or briefs - me too! - and 29% are into puppy play. In the 'other' category, a bunch of you are into shaving (hot!) and I also saw humiliation, PVC, latex, edging, bondage, and more.

And probably no surprise, a full 75% of you are into ageplay, roleplay, baby play.

16% of you visit the blog daily. (I owe you 14 an apology for the lack of posts for days at a time - eek!) 24% visit a few times a week, 22% weekly, which means 62% of you visit once a week or more. That means that 38% of you don't - shame!, lol - including 10% of you who have never visited before taking this survey. Hmm...

A whopping 45% of you consider my stories, and the stories of contributors, to be your favorite part of this blog. [DO YOU HEAR THAT??? STORIES! SO IF YOU HAVE REAL STORIES, 18+ OF COURSE, EMAIL ME: abysitter@gmail.com!!!] 28% of you prefer baby pictures [ALSO TAKING 18+ BABY PICTURE SUBMISSIONS, BY THE WAY] and 16% prefer diaper pictures [DON'T MAKE ME SAY IT AGAIN!] Only 3% of you prefer my commentary, which means I should probably shut up now... =P

84% of you have accounts with RUPadded. This was also the answer nearly 100% of the time for people who chose to include their 'favorite ABDL website'. 51% of you still consider the now-defunct Aby.com your diaper home. Only 11% of you stuck with the one-time leader DPF.com. DiaperSpace got 51% and some insults, DL-Boy got 41%, and DailyDiapers took 31%. All others were under 30%; you can see the entire breakdown at the results page - link below. Someone even said Abysitter.com, and I had to go back to make sure it wasn't me. Whoever you are... thanks!

When it comes to blogs, the vast majority of you are huge fans of this one, and some of you don't read any others. (Loyalty! Ha!) But, I've included links to a number of blogs on here at different times, and some of you have become fans... some of you even found my blog through other blogs. These include Danette's blog, A Closet Life, ABDL Daddy, I Heart Diapers, Boy Ricky, and Protection. You'll find links to some of these at the right.
